Finding a job as a newcomer is a very daunting process, due to culture shock, language barriers and adjusting to a new life. These programs and organizations enable newcomer employment and give opportunities for families to build their new life on the island.  

Job Programs

BC Construction Association Newcomer Employment Program
Funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, this program provides the proper training to pursue a career in a field that is relevant to the newcomer. Staff will assist in utilizing prior skill sets in order for newcomers to gain employment that is sustainable.

VIRCS - Free Employment Services and Workshops

ICA - Work with a Mentor Program
The Intercultural Association offers a mentorship program which connects internationally trained professionals with qualified local mentors to help guide newcomers launch their careers.

Legal Support

Gordon Hunter - Contempo Law
Local practicing business lawyer Gordon Hunter, has offered free legal advice and support for newcomers or refugees coming to Victoria. Starting a business and navigating the legal boundaries is hard for anyone. Newcomers often find that beginning their own business provides a deeper sense of autonomy and shared cultural practices.
