Local

Greater Victoria Public Library Cultural & Recreation Passes
GVPL offers a wide variety of free passes for local programs and events. This is a great way to introduce newcomer families to the culture and beauty of Victoria.

Strong Start
The Greater Victoria School District offers a free, drop-in school program for children aged under 5 and their parents. A great way for newcomer mothers and young children to meet local families and be connected with the school.

Find a Local Park
Parks not only provide a wide open space for families to exercise and play, but they provide a space to connect with other families within their community. During the summer months, concerts, markets, and live entertainment provide a way to enjoy their new home.

Provincial

BC Refugee Hub
A great site providing all the links and information related to provincial mandates and information pertaining to refugee newcomers. Success stories of integration, multi-lingual documents, and many more are included on this site. Ideal for understanding what is happening within our province of BC.

Welcome BC
The Provincial Government of BC has created documents, videos and resources in multiple languages to help support newcomer settlement. While most of the information is related to Government Sponsored Refugees (not privately sponsored refugees as we are), there is still helpful information for you and newcomer families.

Federal

Newcomer Refugees in Canada
The Government of Canada is updating and reforming processes for refugee and newcomer integration. This site will give you information on what the federal government is doing to welcome and accept newcomers.

Canada Revenue Agency (CRA)
Newcomer families, regardless of income, are still required to file taxes. The CRA has created a webpage specifically for newcomers. It is important to utilize their information to ensure newcomer families file appropriately.
